No pussy “I didn’t inhale” disclaimers from New Nationals Deputy Leader Nigel Scullion, who commented thus on his wild night at a Russian nightclub, during which he stripped to his jocks and was handcuffed to a pole:
“If you ever get an offer to go drinking with Icelandic whalers and Canadian crab fishermen, take them up on it.”
One of the Comments in response to my recent post on Harry Palmer’s Avatar cult linked to a 2006 briefing in EPC, their in-house on-line publication “for Avatars, Masters, and Wizards” (link no longer working). Sounds like something out of Harry Potter, but this is serious mum. EPC stands for Enlightened Planetary Civilisation (who LOLed? Have some manners!).
The topic of the briefing is ‘Avatar Bashers’. I suppose I qualify as an AB, since I must plead guilty to having had a bit of fun at Harry Potter ‘s – sorry, Palmer’s – expense. Call me twisted and cynical, but mirth and ridicule are my natural responses to Hazza’s float tank revelation that we’re all from a distant planet, “Estro”, and inhabited by inner “entities” from other worlds that are the source of all human woes.
Coming back from a walk one evening recently, we had to jump out of the way of a 4WD (what else?) as the driver backed out of his driveway like a maniac.
It was bad enough that we had to take evasive action because this bozo didn’t even think to check whether the footpath behind him was clear. But not only did the prick not apologise – he glared and mouthed off at us before he roared off.
How I yearned to belt off after him and slag on his windscreen when he stopped at the corner to turn. And to have smacked his face around with open-handed relish if he’d gotten out to protest.
But alas, I’ve never been physically aggro. Besides, violence is ethically unsupportable as far as I’m concerned, except in self-defence, or in defence of some bully’s victim. But if I abhor violence in life, I certainly allow it a place in art.
