The 2019 Perth Lavazza Italian Film Festival screens at Palace Cinema Paradiso, Perth and Luna On SX, Fremantle, from 2-23 October!
The Perth Lavazza Italian Film Festival always features a diverse selection of movies, and this year is no exception – there’s something for everyone. I’ve seen a couple of the films featured, but don’t have any specific recommendations for this year’s program. As with any film festival, it’s a bit of a lucky dip. Best to just peruse the program and pick out something that looks promising. There are sure to be some little gems that you will not have a chance to see elsewhere.
One that stood out for me as I scanned through the program was Loro: The Director’s Cut, acclaimed director Paolo Sorrentino’s doco covering a particularly tumultuous period in the life of notoriously scandal-plagued former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
This year’s retrospective features works from Bernado Bertolucci (1941-2018), including a restored version of his epic 1900 – a rare chance to see that on the big screen!
The Festival closes with Pavarotti, Ron Howard’s doco on the famous opera tenor, so if you haven’t caught that on the big screen yet, this may be your last chance.
The Festival highlights can be found on the Luna-Palace and Cinema Paradiso websites along with program and screening times.
