Amazing Grace is an “instant” classic of the music doco genre, featuring a rhapsodic live gospel performance by Aretha Franklin at the height of her powers in 1972 (“instant” because the film has only just been released due to technical and legal issues – O happy day!).
Inspired by an era that is special to him, writer/director Tarantino is at his masterful best in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, as are DiCaprio and Pitt as the two leads. The film of the year so far.
Parasite is a social satire focusing on class divisions in Korean society that starts as a well-managed comedy of manners before a jarring change in tone and genre take it off on a tangent. Never less than intriguing, but the radical gear switch compromises its coherence.
